Countdown 2 Give: Week 1
For so many of us, the holidays are a time of year of giving, cheer, and celebration. For me, holiday time means vacationing to California to visit my cousins, exchanging gifts, and drinking warm cups of hot chocolate. However, many families find themselves with an empty pantry and no gifts to give.
Does the holiday season have you in a giving mood? If so, you are in luck!
As part of the countdown to the holidays, I will post different organizations each week to consider for your donations throughout the month of November. Here our some organizations to consider if you would like to donate toys!
1. BEARing Gifts
BEAR, Be a Resource for CPS Kids, is a non-profit organization that provides clothing, school supplies, and gifts to abused and neglected children. Each year, BEAR holds the BEARing Gifts Holiday Program, where they bring holiday joy to more than 10,000 children in the Houston area. You can help BEAR by sponsoring a specific child or children, organizing a holiday gift drive, or by giving funds to help BEAR purchase holiday gifts. For more information, you can visit BEAR’s website.
2. Star of Hope Christmas Gifts
On Christmas Day, about 1,200 homeless men, women, and children will be celebrating the holidays at Star of Hope. By donating items or gifts to Star of Hope, you can bring joy to Houston’s homeless population. Until December 14, Star of Hope is collecting holiday donations at their Women & Family Development Center Cornerstone Community location. For a full wish list, visit Star of Hope’s website.
3. Children’s Assessment Center Holiday Toy Drive
Each holiday season, The Children’s Assessment Center, which aims to provide professional, compassionate, and coordinated treatment to sexually abused children and their families, collects toys to give to over 2,000 children who have been sexually abused. To donate a new, unwrapped toy, you can email Tramesha.Richard@cac.hctx.net or call 713-986-3459 to schedule a drop off time from now until December 4th at 2500 Bolsover St., Houston, TX 77005. For more information, visit the Children's Assessment Center's website.
